Bible Commentary for Genesis 9:eleven

Wesley's Notes for Genesis 9:11

9:eleven At that place shall not any more be a inundation - God had drowned the globe once, and nevertheless it is as provoking as ever; notwithstanding he will never drown it any more, for he deals not with u.s.a. according to our sins. This promise of God keeps the sea and clouds in their decreed place, and sets them gates and bars, Hitherto they shall come, #Job 38:x|,11. If the sea should catamenia but for a few days, as it doth twice every twenty-four hour period for a few hours, what desolations would it brand? So would the clouds, if such showers as we have sometimes seen, were connected long. Only God by flowing seas, and sweeping rains, shews what he could do in wrath; and all the same by preserving the earth from being deluged betwixt both, shews what he tin practise in mercy, and will do in truth.
